Homelessness in Dublin

I hate to use the term ‘eye opener’ but that’s exactly what this experience was.

Last night, I went out to speak to homeless people on the streets of Dublin city centre after the death of homeless man, John Corrie recently.

One man told me he walks to Dublin airport every night in sub zero temperatures “because there’s nowhere to go”. He had a full-time job in construction until two years ago as did another man I spoke to.

Drink and drugs aren’t always the reason for homelessness but even if they are, that’s a social problem as well as a housing one. Here’s my report from this morning for RTÉ’s Morning Ireland programme.
